We’re happy to share that Tstop now has six additional focal lengths of ARRI Signature Prime lenses in house. In all, we now have the entire range from 18mm to 150mm available for rental.

ARRI describes the Signature line as “Modern Lens. Timeless Look.” and that about sums it up. The lenses are very transparent, without embueing a strong character of their own, striving instead to faithfully capture what you point the lens at. That also means they don’t embellish with artificial sharpness. So, while they have incredible detail, sharpness, and freedom from distortion, they accomplish it a very natural and smooth feel to them. If you haven’t shot with them, you might also be surprised that they are a hint warmer than your typical Cooke look lens — as opposed to the cool and sharp look you might get from a Zeiss Master Prime, for example.
If I had to choose just one set of lenses to be stuck on a desert island for the rest of my days, the Signature Primes would be it. I’m especially blown away by how consistent they are wide open from lens to lens, and the total lack of distortion on the 18mm. That said, I know Thomas would still take the Cookes, and so would I sometimes (depending on the project). Its always horses for courses, of course, of course.
The point is, if you haven’t had a chance to shoot with ARRI Signature Prime lenses yet, it’s really about time you give them a whirl.
